What's the most effective way of stopping a cat crapping on my vegetable plot?
Posted by pano | Under Herb Garden Sunday Jul 25, 2010The next door neighbor actually has a couple of cats – and aside from them adding to the depletion of native wildlife – they’re constantly digging up a small garden patch that I’m trying to grow potatoes, herbs and tomatoes in for the kids … I want the kids to appreciate nature and learn something … but these cats are constantly spoiling the party, leave excrement that attracts flies and can’t be hygienic and just up-rooting all the seeds that we’ve planted … I could talk to the next door neighbors but I don’t think it’ll do much good – short of locking the cats in the apartment … which wouldn’t be practical. I’ve covered the garden with wire – but resent the fact that I have to do so simply because of these cats! I tried sprinkling pepper powder on the garden too – but that didn’t work.
Lay something on top of the dirt that they don’t like to touch with there paws, mulch doesn’t work because my own cat won’t stop doing the same thing in the flower beds. So I am guessing here that something in the garden that would scare them off might work, I have to have a little fan on my kitchen table just to keep them off the table when I am not looking, they don’t like the sound, vibration nor the wind blowing in their faces so it works, which gave me the idea just now to put something in my flower beds they don’t like the feel, or smell of. But what that is the question.
Cats hate the scent of citrus..below is a tea/spray mixture that you can make from home foods to spray your yard with to keep them away..You can also scatter citrus peelings alone around your garden, but the tea makes a sprayable product that you will get alot more coverage out of..
put a sprinkler there and attach that to a sensor which will turn on the water, when the cat approach it will spray them with water, that should keep them away forever.
Sensor can be anything, weight sensitive, infra-red, trip wire, laser or if you have the time, wait for the cat and turn on the water. But I’d rather shoot the thing and bury it under the soil turning them into fertilizer.
one of my neighbours has got a water sensor, when a cat goes
onto his garden it sprays cat with jet of water, he says problem
solved
Sprinkle cayenne pepper around your plants it keeps all critters away.
The most effective, kill the cats. The legal and humane way, citrus.
