I will be planting my own garden for the first time this spring. I am unsure which vegetables work best together or if some do not work well at planting together at all. I don’t think I will be doing any herbs (possibly cilantro) or flowers.

Seriously, go to your library & check out "Carrots Love Tomatoes." Excellent book on companion gardening.
For instance, I planted a few tomato plants by my asparagus plants. Those 3 plants produced tremendously. The tomato plants had trucks the size of trees by the end of the season!
Most seed packages have a chart printed on the back.
