I have the soil prepared, and I’m making my list for the seeds going on sale next week. This is what I have on the list so far:

Basil
Oregano
Thyme
Chives
Dill
Cilantro

Am I overlooking something very common?
Parsely! See? That is why I asked!

How do I fix a small garden that my dogs trampled and dug in?

I have a small raised garden in my backyard and my dogs seem to fancy it. It is only around 6ft by 2ft. Yesterday we caught them running back and forth and they basically killed everyhing but my potatoes. I just started this garden about a month ago so all the plants were very little but now the only thing still there that doesnt look dead and trampled is the potatoes. I need to somehow dog proof the area so they cant ruin anything new I plant but I also don’t know how to fix my garden. Do I need to pull up the old dirt to get the old seeds out so I know whats growing where or should I just add some more soil and plant new things? I will be planting typically the same plants in the same area but they also knocked over a small window box planter into my garden so the herbs and flowers I had just planted in there have been scattered in my garden….I just don’t know where to start to grow the garden I want. Please help, any advise would be greatly appreciated!
I had a baby gate blocking it off but my new roommates dog is big enough to know it over, I will be putting a gate up. My biggest concern is how to get my garden back to being a nice clean garden. Mainly, do I dig up the old soil with all the random scattered seeds in it and start new or do I just put soil on top of the old stuff and replant everything…..

what is best soil mix for a raised herb garden bed?

I am making a raised bed to plant herbs in. What is the best soil for it? I plan to put landscape fabric down and then the soil and then plants. Location gets full Texas sun.
Oops! I forgot to ask what is the best mulch to put over the plants after I plant them? Can you use cedar mulch or will it not be safe for edibles?

Using PVC/CPVC Pipes as Planters in my back yard. Good idea?

I’m apparently going to be staying in my apartment for another year and I want to have a "Garden" at my own home this year.

My neighbor is a jacka*s and so I can’t actually dig and have a garden in the ground.

Pots are really expensive and I don’t want to use 5 gallon buckets because they look bad so I was thinking about getting large diameter PVC/CPVC Pipes cut at different heights then blocking the bottom with some kind of plastic netting so that the soil doesn’t run out the bottom with the rain, and then planting pepper plants, herbs, etc. in them.

I think that the white of the pipes will look like Modern Art along the back fence.

The base would allow for proper drainage for the soil, would keep the heat in from the sun, but I’m wondering how much room would, say, a cherry tomato plant need?

I was thinking that I could do the tall pipes for the big plants and then a 2nd row of much smaller diameter pipes in front of those for small plants like herbs and strawberries.

What do you think?

What do you think about my Urban Backyard Garden ideas?

I plan on clearing out much of my backyard and redoing it. I had planned on raising chickens however decided on ducks. Next to the duck’s house will be a pond full of plants for them to eat. However, the pond will be big enough that we will harvest Tilapia in it. We will be planting duckweed which both ducks and tilapia eat inside the pond. We will be knocking out our old playhouse in the backyard, and planting three honey-crisp apple trees. We will be also planting a peach tree and a cherry tree where out other two trees died. Inside, we are planning on bringing a Meyer’s lemon tree which only grows to be a few feet. Also, around the bamboo we plan on planting some bamboo which we will be able to eat. We added a compost to help make our soil much more fertile. We will also be expanding our vegetable garden. We so far have started our seedlings of: onions, leeks, cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and a few others. We also have planted Cilantro, Basil, Rosemary, and one other herb I cannot remember. Anyway, I just wanted to know everyones thoughts on the whole plan. If anybody has suggestions on how to improve it or even anything to add I would be thrilled. Thanks again!

Just made a 4×8' raised planter bed, what do I put in it?

I am very new to gardening, I live in San Diego (zone 10) and am gardening with my 3yr old son!
He planted some carrot seeds in random pots a while back and they are growing so well that we decided to give them a better home. I have some herbs in pots and a tomato plant. So we just built a very nice raised planter bed. So far it only has a bit of soil from our garden in. I have some compost that I am going to put near the top, it is 2′ high and is about a quarter full of dirt right now. So, first question, what kind of dirt should I put in it to get the level up a bit, then can I amend that soil with my compost or do I need to put in the same stuff though out? Second question, once soil is in can I then re-plant my sons carrots? can I put then at the front and the tomato plant at the back? and what seeds would you recommend we plant? Thanks in advance
