I want to start growing herbs for cooking indoors and was wondering which ones are easy to grow. I’ve never successfully really grown anything before. Is Basil a good one? Chives? Suggestions?
How do I start- just buy some seeds, dirt and containers?

i just got a raised planter….3×5 and 22in tall. I plan on growing herbs in it (maybe a vegetable, too). What kind of soil/mix of soil should i use to fill it.
a cheaper version seems to be 3 cubic foot bags of garden soil by Kellogg…any opinions?
should I mix in compost..how much?
should i add any sand?
worms?
anything else?
I am new to this and want to do it right.
Thanks for your help.

My stepfather says I can take a portion of our backyard and turn it into a vegetable garden while growing herbs on the back porch, so I’m looking for things to plant.

When my b/f recently moved, the previous owners left behind a plant that was half dead. We started growing herbs, veggies, and flowers out on the terrace, so our interest in gardening has greatly increased over the last few months. That being said, our attention to this Mystery Plant has followed suit.
While my b/f guessed it either being a Palm or Bamboo, I guessed a type of Dracaena after some internet research (though I’ve yet to find an exact match – which is probably evidence that I am wrong). I’ve been following care tips for Dracaena, which included trimming dead yellow tips following the shape of the leaves, transferring it to a larger pot with new soil, providing indirect light, and watering only once the soil seems dry. All seem to be helping greatly.
I’ve included a link to a pic. If you can identify the plant please let me know!
Thanks.

I need to buy a grow light for a hydroponic garden and have no clue what I need or what to get. I heard that LED lights were really good ? Also, I am not sure what ballasts and reflectors do. Do you need to buy them separately or can you buy one light that includes everything ? I will probably be growing herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, etc…
