My sister and I want to plant a flower and herb garden. We are very big into all-natural remedies and essential oils and such so we decided to try growing our own flowers and herbs. We’ve never done this before so we need some tips on which would be the best to grow here (Beaumont, South-East Texas. Near the Gulf). The weather is humid and hot in the summer and it rains frequently. In the winter, the lowest temperatures are around 32°F or a little lower. We really want to plant lavender, but we know that it likes dry, hot weather conditions. French Lavender is what we really want to plant. Some other plants are rosemary, mint, parsley, black-eyed Susan, and perhaps some Texas Bluebonnet. So we need to know if these can grow here, and what conditions and care they would need. Thank you so much!

I live in in Phoenix AZ and really want my backyard full of beautiful plants, mainly flowers & herbs. With little kids around I don’t want cactus or poisonous plants. I know I’ll have aloe vera, rosemary and mint.
Most of the yard gets little shade (late afternoon only). What kind of plants should I plant & when? I hate killing them all the time
I have the opposite of a green thumb. Help Desert Gardeners!!!!!!!!

For my senior project at school, I’m thinking of learning how to plant vegetables, and maybe flowers. Can I start a garden this September? I live in Sacramento, California. What sort of vegetables and herbs can I grow? I want to grow the vegetables on the western side of my house, but if that is a bad idea, I may be able to work around to the Eastern side.
Also, besides keeping the food for my family, is there a place I can donate the vegetables to, or some other sort of cause I can put them toward?
I’m thinking of relating this project to being green and the economy being crappy, like a victory garden.
If any of you have ideas of how to improve on this project, I’d love some opinions.

I’m planting herbs, fruit & vegetables, and flowers in my yard and I’m wondering how to keep squirrels (& any other animals) from eating and/or destroying them. I’ve heard of using coffee or cayenne pepper, but I wasn’t sure if this would effect the taste of the herbs & fruits & veggies.
Thanks!

Hi,
Please give me your feedback on
1. Would you prefer to buy fresh local produce like tomatoes, Micro-greens, Mushrooms, Lettuce( from a greenhouse) which were produced with the help of the disabled?
2. Would you buy flowers which were produced by disabled people
3. What do you feel about buying aromatic oils extracted from herbs produced by people with special needs?
Your response is very valuable.
Thanks

I am getting married in September, and there will be a ton of ppl around my house.
I am looking for ideas on sprucing up the outside of it. It is a 1899 fieldstone farmhouse. I have one strip of garden (about 12 feet long, 3 feet wide) beside my front door. So far int here I have some hostas, dahlias, bleeding heart (which is DYING!) clematis (also dying rapidly), lavender, and gladiolis.
I want to add some colour to the garden. The glads are probably not going to be flowering by Sept 6 (my wedding), and who knows about the dahlias.
What flowers can I plant that will be shoing blooms and look smashing for Sept 6th?
I live in zone 5, the garden is out in full sun most of the day, and the soil is pretty rocky.
Also, I have kids and a dog, so they need to be family friendly plants. I would also plant flowery herbs!
Thanks for the input!
