well, b vitamins are really important in depression issues. it's hard to get b 12 though, if you don't eat meat. you can get a full b complex (minus the 12) from nutritional yeast. also, i've had friends who took 5htp (which you have to take with a complete b complex), and said it works, but i've never tried it.

the best cure for depression is therapy, healthy food, and exercise. yoga works especially well because it's not just exercise, it's a way to quiet the mind in order to prepare it for meditation. the more clear you mind is, the easier it is to see the fault in your brains arguments against you. just remember, all those nasty things in your head aren't you, and you have the power to change how you think.

if you have a computer you can do yoga for free at http://www.yogatoday.com/get-started/ if you don't have fast internet, you can download a firefox add-on that allows you to save streaming video to your computer.

it's easy to feel depressed and insecure when you loose your job, but remember, there are a lot of people loosing their jobs right now, it's not a reflection on who you are. if you don't like something about yourself, change it. but be realistic, try to look at your insecurities objectively. it's important to strive to be a better person every day, but you'll never make any positive changes if you just beat yourself up all the time.

just try to breath and don't worry. worrying is pointless and achieves nothing. make a list of all the things you want to do and do them one by one. write things down to get them out of your head so you're not thinking the same things over and over every day. try writing for an hour every morning, just stream of consciousness. don't read it, just get it out, and if you find yourself thinking of things you have no control over, remind yourself of what you can do, and what you are doing.

St. John's Wort is often touted by the neighborhood quack(s) for this problem, but extensive study by competent medical professionals proves that this plant, like all other so-called "natural" nostrums is ineffective. See your physician for an evaluation and referral to counseling that can help. You may not even need medicine.

As far as foods, stay off the sugar
